Positive net worth!

I am very excited for a big end of the month financial update next week, but here is a little celebration: my paycheck hit and I am officially in the black, for what I am sure is the first time in my adult life. Other people my age have, like, hundreds of thousands of dollars and real estate and stuff, but hey, I have hundreds of dollars! It's something. :)

No-spend week is going -- well, I spent. A token $2 in the collection basket on Sunday, and $1.70 for an onion and a donut yesterday afternoon. But I biked both to church and to the grocery store, so I didn't use any gas!

  1. Congratulations!
That is something I have been wanting to yell for a long time, "I'm in the black!"
    Must feel great.

    1. It does! I do kind of want to tell everyone I know. :) Thanks! And keep going: you'll get there too!

  2. So awesome! If I calculate my net worth one way I'm positive, but the way I do it on my site, I am negative... so I'm gunning for it to be positive in that calculation. By the end of the year I hope.

    1. Yes, if I'd included my car I would have hit positive territory a month or so ago. But it just felt wrong, because it's not really a salable asset (I couldn't get anything cheaper and I need to own something, so.) Good luck getting there by the end of the year! It feels good.

  3. Woot woot, congrats! I remember when I crossed that line... from -$15k to 0 to $12k. Many congrats, and welcome to "in the black" group! It seems to build up a lot faster once you're in the black, compared to when you were getting out of the red.

    1. Thanks! It is a good feeling. I hope to make progress this year, definitely, though not as fast as I wish I were going to (I start a new job this month which for complicated reasons pays less than the old one.)

  4. Congratulations!! I just accomplished that this year too. The next thing I can't wait to claim: $0 debt!

    1. Congratulations to you too! And yeah, that is also my next goal. I should get there by the end of the year; fingers crossed. :)

  5. Woohoo! Maybe I'll get there some day! I think I'm actually closer than I think. I'm guilty of not looking at my RRSP account at all until tax season. I contribute about $120 a pay and I believe my employer matches about 3% free money! I think I'm going to look into how I can contribute more into that account once my Visa is paid off!

    1. I have everything in mint.com, so it does the calculation automatically including my retirement account. You should check out where you are! It's super motivating.

    1. Thanks! The rest of the no-spend week was more like a "low-spend" week, but it's all ok. :)
